THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF SUPER MARIO GAMES..
Super Mario Land was one of the first games released on to the classic game boy. The game plot is typical Mario stuff. Aliens of kidnapped Princess Daisy of Sharshaland and put her subjects under hypnosis. Mario hears of this, and seeing how Bowser is still recovering from the last time he try to kidnap Princess Toadstool. Mario decides to go to Shrashaland to see if he can rescue Princess Daisy.
This isn’t going to be easy there are 4 different kingdoms in Sharshaland, and Mario will have to search every one of them in order to find Daisy, and beat the alien leader behind all of this Tapanga.
Graphics
The easiest way to describe this game has far has graphics go is a small uncolored version of Super Mario Bros one. You just can’t help but notice that Mario looks just like he did in Super Mario Bros one. The only difference is that he is not in full color.
Game play
Most of the game is typical old school Mario Bros game. You start at the beginning of a stage and continue to stomp the enemy’s on the head, jump over pits, grab mushrooms and other power up items, and punch blocks for coins until you reach the end of the level. When you reach the end of a level you try for the top goal so you can play a bonus game for some extra lives.
There are two gradius type stages in the game the marine pop and the sky pop stages. In these stages you either pilot a airplane, or a submarine. You have to shoot at the enemies so they don’t hit you, and you have to shoot at the blocks to obtain neat power up items. You also have to fight a boss at the end of these two stages.
My only complaint is that there are only 12 stages in the game. All though the game is pretty short it’s not has short has you might think, there is no short cuts thorough stages or warp zones so you will have to play every level in order to rescue Princess Daisy.
Sound:
This is one of the rare game boy games that have decent sound. The Music is the typical happy music that is accompany most Mario side scrollers, all though they do have a silly can-can type music when ever you grab a star. Sound effects are the same from all the other Mario Bros game of old.
Challenge
All though the game is easy to pick up and play it is fairly challenging. There were a few areas in the game that had me stuck for days, and it’s still impossible for me to get past world 4 without loosing at least 5 lives.
In the end Mario land is a great game for people like myself who simply can’t get enough of 2d side scrolling games. Also Mario Land is perfect for trips that are to short to bring Pokemon along, but are to long to bring game and watch gallery along.
Tips
At the beginning of world 1-3 run to the very left side of the screen and jump. You will find a hidden block with and elevator in it. The elevator will take you to the top of the screen where you can get some coins, and a pipe that leads you to a coin room.
If you are about to enter a pipe that leads into a coin room hit all the blocks that contain coins around it first. After you exit from the coin room you will be in the exact same place you where but all the coin blocks will be back.
At the end of world 2-3 (marine pop stage) you can kill the boss by shooting the blocks underneath him, then pilot your marine pop so you can hit the button. However you won’t get any points for doing this.
You can collect coins with fireballs. If your fireballs hit a coin it will grab it for you. This is helpful in a few of the large coin rooms you enter towards the end of the game.
